Putting high frame-rate virtual production to the test

Anna Valley’s advanced tech department exists to push the boundaries of what’s technically possible so that we can help our clients create spectacular shows. When we come across a challenge that limits our customers’ ability to create content or experiences, this is the team that gets tasked with devising a technical solution. Some problems are easier solved than others, but when the team was asked to develop a workflow for shooting high frame-rate content, with camera moves on a virtual production volume, they faced one of their biggest challenges yet.

Ask almost any virtual production team about shooting slow motion footage on a volume and they’ll probably tell you it doesn’t work. The rendering requirements, sync issues and hardware limitations mean there is little chance of success – which explains why there are no documented workflows for high-speed VP. Luckily, our advanced tech team loves a challenge.

Watch the video below to find out how Anna Valley teamed up with Garden Studios, Mark Roberts Motion Control and the Creative Camera Company to tackle, and solve, some of the biggest obstacles to shooting slowmo virtual production content.
