Q&A with Anna Valley’s new Project Manager; Chris Kerr

Chris Kerr is the latest addition to the Anna Valley team and he’s had to hit the ground running since starting work on the 13th of November.  We caught up with him to find out more about his background and the unique skillset he brings to the team.

What is your official title at Anna Valley?

I have joined the Anna Valley team as a Project Manager, with a focus on events and broadcast rentals.  I’ll be responsible for interpreting briefs, designing technical systems and managing projects to deliver AV within our clients’ budgets.

What attracted you to working at Anna Valley?

I have worked with Anna Valley on a freelance basis over a number of years. I’ve been impressed with the great productions that they put together and enjoyed working with the Anna Valley Team.  It was a no-brainer when the opportunity came up to work with the best AV company in the country.

What made you choose AV as a career path and what makes you stay in the industry?

I studied music technology within the music industry and it was a natural progression to fall into the live events sector.  I stay in the industry as I love the excitement of live shows and the variety of every show being different.

What’s the best AV project you’ve ever worked on and why?

I have worked on the annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards a number of times and it’s always one of my favourite AV projects – with LED screens being used as a backdrop to the set, projection for the delay screens and Xflex giving the glam and wow factor the stage.  I love the challenge of every year being different and more complicated, with a short amount of time to rig before going on live TV.

What differentiates you from other AV project managers? 

I’m a video specialist and actually spent some time working in the broadcast industry, both in media control rooms and OB (outside broadcasting) for sporting events. I’m fairly adept at lighting design after touring with Jimmy Carr for extensive periods and convincing his lighting designer to teach me the tricks of the trade.  As a self-taught CAD designer, I can also provide clients with a clear picture of their AV solutions to help them visualise the final result.

What is your pet peeve? A weak cup of tea ha ha

Tell us about your first week at Anna Valley

I joined Anna Valley during the busiest time of the year so I hit the ground running – straight on to shows and planning events.  I’ve been made to feel very welcome by the Anna Valley team and the support network is fantastic. I’m looking forward to the years ahead.
