KSS Event Production picks Anna Valley for event video at Channel 4 Sales Upfront

For the last three years, technical production company, KSS Event Production, has helped Rouge Events agency deliver the Channel 4 Sales Upfront, an annual showcase of the best programming from Channel 4, BT sport and UKTV to the UK’s advertising industry. In previous years, KSS have called on a tried-and-trusted network of specialist event technology providers and operators for the show, but this year’s event was different.

As well as introducing a pre-event “Upclose,” which gathered a select group of 120 media professionals to discuss industry hot topics, the 2019 Upfront included 14 experiential content zones where 1200 advertising professionals could immerse themselves in the content by nibbling on pub food in the BT Sport bar and presenting the Channel 4 weather in front of a green screen. The event also featured musical performances from stars including Professor Green, Sigala and Craig David.

The increased complexity of this year’s event, held on the 5th of June at the iconic Roundhouse venue in London, meant that it relied more on video displays and support than any of the previous showcases.

“The fact that so much LED was needed was an initial driver for me to find a new supplier and the more I asked around the more people spoke highly of Anna Valley.  They were initially brought on to provide just the LED screen, but their role grew into full video supplier to KSS.”

– KSS director, Mark Stephen

Anna Valley provided three high-resolution LED screens for the main stage, creating a digital backdrop of two 3.5m x 5m screens flanking a 9m x 5m curved screen.  On-site video was captured with a Sony HSC100 and two Panasonic UE70 remote head cameras. The majority of the content was played back from WATCHOUT, which was supplied by Wide UK and operated by Neil Stratton while the screens were controlled via Anna Valley’s Barco E2, making it possible for camera PiPs, and PPT’s to be displayed as well.

Anna Valley’s team of seven technicians worked with a range of other suppliers including Wide UK (playback), Britannia Row Productions (sound), Colour Sound Experiment (lighting) and Pete the Greek (rigging) to integrate the video elements into the broader technical solution. Outside of the main room event, eighteen 43-inch LG screens were provided for the interactive content zones.

“Anna Valley had everything covered.  Their crew are on par with KSS in the sense that they care so much and will do whatever is needed to get things done.  Anna Valley rock, man!”

– KSS director, Mark Stephen
