Helping Blueprint Partners set the stage for the DAZN sponsored Childline Sports Day

Anna Valley recently joined forces with Blueprint Partners to provide event technology and services to support the inaugural Childline Sports Day – a fun-filled fundraising event with a competitive twist.

The NSPCC’s dedicated Childline is a free service providing confidential advice and support to children and young people. They provide a range of services 365 days a year, from 1-2-1 counselling sessions to email advice services, and have supplied an average of 17,000 counselling sessions each month since the first national lockdown.

A vulnerable child or young person reaches out to Childline every 25 seconds, but at least one in three children will hang up or be disconnected before someone is able to pick up the phone. The NSPCC hosts various fundraising events throughout the year in an attempt to close this gap.

An exciting new twist on fundraising

Up until recently the annual themed Childline Ball was considered the flagship fundraising event in the NSPCC calendar. However, when the time came to plan the 2022 event, concerns about the pandemic and potential restrictions prompted the event organisers to come up with a new format for raising funds.

The inaugural Childline Sports Day took place on Friday the 10th of June – a day that is recognised as Childhood Day in the UK which aims to bring people together to inform them on how to better protect children. The event brought together over 600 influential media industry figures who took part in a myriad of sporting challenges such as a tug of war, a ‘total knockout’ sweeper arm, and a bungee run, as well as activities that got their brains ticking over, such as a round of ‘Dilemma’.

With 48 teams of 10 taking part on the day, the event was attended by all the major players in the local media industry including Channel 4, Amazon, LinkedIn, Virgin Media O2, and Warner Bros. After competing in the challenges, participants enjoyed live entertainment and a silent auction, ahead of a hotly anticipated trophy ceremony.

A focal point for a day of festivities

Blueprint Partners has produced the Childline Ball for the last twelve years, often using AV supplied by Anna Valley, and both companies were once again key suppliers to the Childline Sports Day. Blueprint Partners are longstanding clients of Anna Valley, with the companies previously collaborating on multiple events including the showstopping hybrid launch of the Lotus Emira, the renowned British Takeaway Awards and the Prince’s Trust Awards – an event they’ve worked on together several times over the years.

For the Childline Sports Day, Anna Valley supplied staging, an outdoor LED screen and audio support to create a focal point for keeping track of the day’s challenges and each team’s position on the leader board. With presenters stationed on the stage throughout the day of fun and games, the 6-metre by 2.5-metre video wall was used to display a real-time scoreboard provided by live sports broadcast graphics specialist, Happy Graphics. Anna Valley also provided technical crew including a project manager, two LED techs, two sound techs, and two carpenters to support the day’s activities.

Blueprint Partners and Anna Valley also joined forces to participate in the day’s events, with Anna Valley’s commercial director, Nick Hart, and project director, Ben O’Shea joining Blueprint’s team to compete in the challenges.

Making a difference

“It’s hard to hear that not every young person who bravely reaches out to Childline is able to talk to a councillor,” says Hart, “We’re delighted that Anna Valley have been able to play even a small part in Childline Sports Day – and hopefully connect more children with the help they need. It was incredible to see the collective media industry pull together and hopefully make a difference to countless young people’s lives.”

The first ever Childline Sports Day was a resounding success, raising a total of £229,000 for the charity. Thanks to this event the Childline team will be able to answer over 57,000 additional contacts, making an immeasurable difference to the children and young people that the organisation supports every single day.
