Anna Valley provides audio-visual services fit for a king at the 2023 Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards

Anna Valley was once again entrusted with providing audio-visual technology and services at this year’s Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards. The star-studded event took place on the 16th of May at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and was run for the eighth time by communications agency, Blueprint Partners. The 2023 show marked the seventh Prince’s Trust Awards that Anna Valley has worked on with Blueprint Partners and saw the AV and entertainment company responsible for video displays and playback, front-of-house mix and comms for the entire event and production team.

Founded by the then Prince of Wales in 1976, the Prince’s Trust has helped over a million young people across the UK to overcome challenging circumstances and build meaningful and sustainable careers. The Trust is now present in over 20 countries. The annual awards celebrate the incredible achievements of the young people who have completed the Prince’s Trust programmes at a red-carpet event.

While The King wasn’t able to attend this year’s awards, the guest list included a host of noteworthy celebrities and supporters including Amal and George Clooney, Gareth Southgate, Stephen Graham and Rylan. With such an important patron and high-profile attendees, there was no room for error on any aspect of the show. This pressure was compounded by tight turnaround times (the curtain dropped on the resident show’s matinee only 24 hours before technical checks started for the awards) and the need to work around an integrated stage set. The Anna Valley team mitigated these risks by completing an extensive pre-production process at their warehouse prior to the event. By pre-programming radio mic and comms channels and putting media servers and AV wall switchers through their paces with test content before the equipment was transported to the venue, the team minimised both the setup time needed and the risk of technical failures on site.

It’s great to have the Anna Valley team on board each year for the Prince’s Trust Awards. The combination of their technical knowledge and really accommodating and collaborative teams mean we can concentrate on the content, knowing we’re backed up by the technical support we need to deliver a complex show in a short amount of time.

The 2023 Prince’s Trust Awards were presented by Ant and Dec against a backdrop of three, high-res LED walls, positioned at dramatic angles to provide optimal backgrounds for the live event camera coverage. Additional displays were provided as repeater screens in the upper circle, as back-of-house relay screens and to support the autocue prompt. In addition to being responsible for the front-of-house mix and supplying active splits for record and live audio, Anna Valley also provided a bespoke audio package for Sam Ryder’s closing act. Wireless Bolero comms with a four-wire tie-in to the OB truck linked everyone from the director through to the on-stage crew.

It’s a privilege to be entrusted with the audio-visual component of such a high-profile event,
but the Prince’s Trust Awards are so much more than just an awards show and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting such a worthy cause
